Wind Watching

There’s something mesmerizing about watching the wind move. It holds your attention just enough to keep your mind from drifting, yet it remains gentle. All of this while somehow never overwhelming my senses.
Lately, I’ve found myself doing a lot of wind watching. From the still air to the chilling gusts, I’ve been learning, listening, and observing. Being back on the Alex has reminded me why I love this world so deeply. I’ve been immersed in new lives, sharing what I’m passionate about, and witnessing the magic of the Alex take hold of others; just as it did for me when I first stepped aboard all those years ago.
Every day, something unfolds that leaves me a little more awake, a little more aware. On the first day, it was the look on the trainees’ faces. How they took in the Alex, wide eyed, almost like she was a living thing breathing beneath their feet. Today, it was guiding one of them into the rigging, her first climb. Step by step, she rose; each rung a revelation. And as she climbed, I saw again what I sometimes forget: the way this life reveals itself slowly, honestly, the higher you go.
This voyage is just beginning. But already, I feel content. I find peace in watching the wind, and wonder where it might take me this time; what it might show me, perhaps even carry me toward. Maybe, just maybe, it’ll be somewhere I’ll never forget.
With love,
E
